Homer, Alaska

A look down the beach along the 'Spit' in Homer. This is looking to the East toward the mountains. There are big mountains that rise right out of the water and have glaciers on them - it is beautiful! The tides here vary quite a bit, but not quite as much as the tides closer to Anchorage, which can vary as much as 34 feet!

This is the small boat harbor of Homer. The harbor is on one side of the spit and the beach is on the other. Fish markets, charter companies, and little gift shops line each side of the spit.

This is the view looking to the East from the Spit on a clearer day in August. These mountains rise right out of the ocean and have glaciers on their tops.

A beautiful moon rise at 10:30pm. I was just arriving into Homer on my second day in Alaska.

This awesome sunset was taken along the beach in Homer. This was during the second week of September when my mother was camping with me.
And this sunset was taken a couple of weeks later from about the same place

The Salty Dawg Saloon is a true landmark in Homer. It is the only known structure from the original townsite back in 1898. This is THE place to go for a cold one. If someone rings the bell, they buy a round for the house - it is alot of fun. It is located right on the spit and across the street from where I camped.

Just for the 'HAL-I-BUT'
This is me landing the biggest fish I have ever caught. It is a 100-pound halibut. These used to be common, but now - due to overfishing - they aren't so common. I felt VERY lucky to get this huge fish.
The fish on the right is mine. The deckhand cleaned all of the fish, except the two biggest ones, so that everyone could have their picture taken with them. I was given a "100-pounder club" pin to put on my hat.
