Homer and Swan Lake

It was nice to see Homer again, but the weather wasn't very nice this time. These pictures were taken on Monday afternoon, after the skies cleared. It was windy, but at least we could see a few mountains.

This is a picture looking across the Cook Inlet to Redoubt Mt. It is a volcano and last erupted in 1989 (I think). Alaska is filled with volcanoes - many of them active ones.

We left Cooper Landing on Tuesday around 2:00pm. This is a picture of my dad in the front passenger seat of Ken's plane. We are just about to leave Cooper Landing for our hunting and fishing trip.

The Kenai River below is a glacier fed river that is full of salmon and trout. Unfortunately, you have to release all of the salmon, but can keep a couple of trout as long as they are the right size. We didn't get a chance to fish in the Kenai River this year, but certainly enjoyed its beautiful color.

The picture to the left is a view looking across Swan Lake from near the cabin. As you can see in the other picture, alot of the snow from this past winter didn't melt. Some parts of Alaska experienced record snowfall last winter and with the mild summer temps, there is more left this year than last year. On the last morning, it was 20 degrees when we woke up. We also looked out the window and there was a cow moose eating leaves just a few feet from the cabin.
This was home from four days and we really enjoyed it. This is the same cabin that Greg and I stayed in last year after our caribou hunt. It has a wood-burning stove and a couple of wooden bunks and a table. It was nice and kept us out of the rain.

This is probably the same cow moose that we saw next to the cabin. We were standing on the edge of the water talking and waiting for Ken to come in to get us, when I saw this moose step into the water and begin swimming across the lake.
