Whittier

This is a glacier that I saw on the way to Whittier. It is actually located just outside of Girdwood. I took this picture from the train depot in Portage before we got on the train for Whittier.
This is the small boat harbor in Whittier. Whittier is a very small town that can only be reached by train or boat. The Alaska Marine Highway System stops in Whittier and goes over to Valdez from here.
These are some of the mountains surrounding Whittier. It rains A LOT in Whittier. In fact, we went there to go sea kayaking, but couldn't because of the rough seas, high winds, and rain. When we tried to go back the next day, we called first and they said that the weather was even worse that day (yesterday). This evening, on the news, the reported a wind gust of 92 mph and 35 foot seas. I wonder if I will ever get to sea-kayak now.
